Dr. Kingston is a part of the team that has recently published “Disability free life expectancy: a simulation study of scenarios to extend healthy years and reduce inequalities” on BMC medicine. Using multistate modeling of 16,899 adults aged 50+ in England, this study found that interventions targeting both age-related disability and socioeconomic deprivation produced the greatest gains in disability-free life expectancy (4.8–8.6 years) while reducing inequalities. Age-focused interventions alone increased disability-free life expectancy but widened socioeconomic gaps, whereas deprivation-only interventions yielded modest improvements. The findings highlight the need for combined strategies to promote healthy, equitable aging.
