Dr. Zang is a part of the team that has recently published “Coevolution of Cognitive and Health Trajectories Among US Older Adults With Cognitive Impairment” on Journal of the American Medical Directors Association. Using 2011–2021 data from 2,569 U.S. Medicare beneficiaries with cognitive impairment, this study identified five distinct trajectories of perceived health and cognition. Stable, favorable health trajectories were strongly associated with better cognitive outcomes, whereas sharp declines in health predicted faster cognitive deterioration despite higher initial health. The findings emphasize the importance of maintaining overall health to slow cognitive decline and support holistic care for people with cognitive impairment.View Publication: https://doi.org/10.1016/j.jamda.2026.106175
