Dr. Wen is a part of the team that has recently published “Racial/ethnic disparities in neighborhood physical activity environments: Comparing Native Hawaiian and Other Pacific Islander and Asian Americans in the United States” on SSM-Population Health. Using U.S. census tract data, this study found that Native Hawaiian and Other Pacific Islander (NHPI) and Asian populations experience distinct physical activity environments (PAEs). NHPI communities generally had less favorable built, facility, and social environments but better natural environments in Hawaii, whereas Asian communities showed the opposite pattern. These findings demonstrate that aggregating NHPI and Asian populations obscures important environmental disparities and highlights the need for disaggregated, context-specific public health research and interventions.View Publication: https://doi.org/10.1016/j.ssmph.2026.101916
