Dr. Zajacova is a part of the team that has recently published “Incidence rates of twelve chronic diseases/conditions in US adults: findings from a population-based study” on The Lancet Regional Health–Americas. Using nationally representative US data from 2019–2020, this study estimated one-year incidence rates for 12 major chronic diseases and conditions. Incidence varied substantially, with high cholesterol and chronic pain most common and diabetes, COPD, and coronary heart disease least common. Age consistently predicted risk, informing priorities for chronic disease prevention and resource allocation.
