Dr. Lee is a part of the team that has recently posted “Donor Motivation and Civil Society Regimes from a Cross-Cultural and Institutional Perspective” on Voluntas: International Journal of Voluntary and Nonprofit Organizations. Using nationally representative data from Taiwan and the United States, this study found that charitable giving differs across institutional and cultural contexts. U.S. giving was more individualized and based on personal evaluations, whereas Taiwanese giving was more socially embedded. By combining propensity score matching, regression, and random forest analyses, the study highlights how institutional contexts shape charitable behavior and offers insights for culturally adaptive fundraising strategies.
