Country-level gender inequality and sex disparities in adolescent chronic pain: A 47-country analysis
Dr. Zajacova is part of the team that has published “Country-level gender inequality and sex disparities in adolescent chronic pain: A 47-country analysis” on Preventive Medicine. This study examined how national gender inequality influences adolescent chronic pain and sex disparities across 47 countries. Using data from over 244,000 adolescents, researchers found that higher gender inequality was linked to greater overall pain prevalence but smaller female–male disparities because boys’ pain increased more sharply in unequal societies. Higher intimate partner violence prevalence was associated with larger female–male differences. Findings highlight the importance of structural gender inequality in shaping adolescent chronic pain patterns globally. View Publication: https://doi.org/10.1016/j.ypmed.2026.108495
