Dr. Malhotra is a part of the team that has published “Enhancing goals of care discussions: a systematic review and meta-analysis of clinician-directed behavioural nudges” on Age and Ageing. This systematic review and meta-analysis of 51 studies found that clinician-directed behavioral nudges significantly increased documentation of goals-of-care discussions (GOCDs) for patients with serious illnesses. Nudges more than tripled documentation rates, with multicomponent interventions showing the strongest effects. Evidence also suggested improvements in communication quality and reduced hospital readmissions. Findings indicate that low-cost, scalable nudges can help overcome clinician barriers and improve advance care planning practices.
