Revisiting the Osteoporosis Self-Assessment Tool (OST):
evidence from a multi-cohort study in Asia supporting age-dependent thresholds
Dr. Malhotra is a part of the team that has recently published “Revisiting the Osteoporosis Self-Assessment Tool (OST): evidence from a multi-cohort study in Asia supporting age-dependent thresholds” in Osteoporos Int. This multi-ethnic study evaluated the Osteoporosis Self-Assessment Tool (OST) for screening osteoporosis in women and men aged 50 and 60 years or older. OST showed acceptable discrimination, but fixed thresholds performed inconsistently across age groups. Age-dependent thresholds substantially improved screening performance, suggesting that osteoporosis screening should move beyond a single universal OST cut-off toward age-specific approaches.
