Dr. Malhotra is a part of the team that has recently published “Impact of the Diagnosis of Dementia in Older Care-recipients on Their Family Caregivers’ Depressive Symptoms and Quality of Life” in Dementia. Using four-wave longitudinal data from Singapore, this study examined changes in family caregivers’ mental health and quality of life following dementia diagnoses in older care recipients. Caregivers experiencing a new diagnosis had the highest depressive symptoms and lowest physical and psychological QoL. Regression analyses showed significant declines in psychological and environmental QoL, highlighting the need for caregiver support after dementia diagnosis.
