Financial Profiles of South Korean Widows: The Roles of State, Market, and Family
Dr. Kim, with colleagues, has recently published “Financial Profiles of South Korean Widows: The Roles of State, Market, and Family” in Journal of Aging & Social Policy. Using Korean Longitudinal Study of Aging data, this study identified five financial profiles among 650 middle-aged and older widowed women. Financially unstable widows had the poorest well-being and limited access to social assistance, while family wealth and intergenerational support reduced vulnerability. The findings highlight the need for stronger noncontributory pensions and less restrictive asset tests to reduce poverty in widowhood. View Publication: https://doi.org/10.1080/08959420.2026.2702890
