How do limited familial ties and community relationships shape health-seeking in older adulthood?
Evidence from Indonesia
Dr. Teerawichitchainan is a part of the team that has recently published “How do limited familial ties and community relationships shape health-seeking in older adulthood? Evidence from Indonesia” in The Journals of Gerontology: Series B. Using Indonesia Family Life Survey data, this study identified four health-seeking profiles among 2,809 older Indonesians. Different forms of limited family ties were associated with distinct health-seeking behaviors: spousal absence reduced routine care, while parent–child disconnection increased comprehensive care. Community trust partly compensated for weak family ties, but community engagement could widen disparities, highlighting the need for culturally grounded interventions.
