Dr. Tareque is a part of the team that has recently published “Mapping drivers of life expectancy change in Asia from 1990 to 2023” in Nature. This study analyzed life expectancy, cause-specific mortality, and risk factors across 34 Asian countries and territories from 1990–2023 using Global Burden of Disease Study 2023 data. Life expectancy increased throughout the period, with cardiovascular mortality reductions driving gains in Central, East, and high-income Asia Pacific. COVID-19 reversed trends in several regions, while contributing factors varied substantially across countries and regions.
