Bidirectional longitudinal associations of family/friend social support with cognitive function in late life
Dr. Ang is a part of the team that has recently published “Bidirectional longitudinal associations of family/friend social support with cognitive function in late life” in The Journals of Gerontology, Series B: Psychological Sciences and Social Sciences. This study examines reciprocal relationships between social support and cognitive function among 2,700 older Chinese adults. Friend support predicted better subsequent cognitive function, while effects varied by hukou status. Both family and friend support benefited rural older adults’ cognition, whereas cognitive function predicted family support differently in urban and rural settings.
