Managing Existing Pain: Predicting Pain Progression and Improvement Using Machine Learning Approaches
Dr. Sun, with colleagues, has recently published “Managing Existing Pain: Predicting Pain Progression and Improvement Using Machine Learning Approaches” in Annals of Epidemiology. Using U.S. national health survey data and machine learning, this study identifies key predictors of chronic pain progression and improvement across diverse populations. Findings highlight the roles of comorbidities, opioid use, socioeconomic conditions, and social relationships, revealing how risk factors vary across pain transition stages and demographic groups. These findings underscore the need for equitable, population-specific pain management and prevention strategies. View Publication: https://doi.org/10.1016/j.annepidem.2026.110297
