Dr. Chen is a part of the team that has recently published “Food insecurity and sleep deficiency among older Filipinos: the mediating roles of depressive symptoms and frailty phenotypes”on Journal of Global Health. Using nationally representative data from 3,599 older adults in the Philippines, this study examined whether depression and frailty mediate the relationship between food insecurity and sleep deficiency. Food insecurity was associated with sleep problems indirectly through depressive symptoms and frailty, while its direct association was not significant. The findings suggest addressing depression and frailty may improve sleep among food-insecure older adults.
