Ching-Ju Chiu is a professor at the Institute of Gerontology, National Cheng Kung University in Taiwan with an established reputation for innovation in disability estimation and health promotion for the elderly. Currently, she has three main track of research: (1) Comparison of the disability development across countries, and unveiling the developmental mechanisms within gender and culture. This part of the research focuses on not only the socio-epidemiology, but also focuses on behavioral transition to explore the role of psychological and behavioral factors in disease related disability management. (2) Examination on how new technology or related elderly education can facilitate independent living of the elderly living in the community was also a highlight of Prof. Chiu’s lab. This track of research mainly based on community intervention and by providing empirical data on the usage of new eHealth for disease management or health promotion. It explores the possibility of technology embedded disease management and elderly health promotion. (3) More recently, the New Elderly research data was collected. Prof. Chiu discerns the appearance of various types of elderly in different cohort and environments, including collecting the digital health data of the elderly and transmits the unmet needs of the elderly through various media to achieve the purpose of understanding from interdisciplinary angels.
